What does the Parish Council do?
The role of the council is to:
- Serve in an advisory role to the Pastor by participating in discussions related to parish operations and providing updates on the many ministries of the parish
- Advance the vision of the parish
- Unify clergy and laity (that’s you!) in leadership and service
- In the words of Canon Law 536, “…together with those who share in pastoral care by virtue of their office in the parish, assist in fostering pastoral activity”
Who can become a Parish Council member?
To become a member of Parish Council, a nominee must:
- Be a registered member of St. Rita Parish
- Be willing to give time and talent to the parish community
- Be willing to attend monthly meetings (8-10 per year) for a term of 3 years (1 year for youth members)
- Be willing to bring your support and enthusiasm to parish activities
- Be open to God’s will regarding parish needs
- Be a good listener and communicator
